Butterflies

Just living is not enough, said the butterfly. One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower. - Hans Christian Anderson

As summer has ended and we are into the fall planting season I was reflecting on all the summer butterflies and decided to post some of my favorite pictures of my butterfies.

  1. Wow Karin! Were these taken in you GA home? I'd never seen butterflies like some of these. The second one looks like a Mimic. It says it's a rare stray from the tropics. The Moths and Butterflies of North America don't have any listed for Georgia. Here is the website with the page..

I've sent in photos with the info of butterflies they don't have in my area and they are very happy to get them. I'm having a little bit of a hard time figuring out the two on the orange tray. They look like Satyrs of some type but their spots are giving me a hard time!! hahaha! How very interesting! Thanks for posting these!

  2. Hi Eve! These butterflies were taken at various locations during 2009. The two middle photos were taken at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA. They have a Butterfly House with a great selection of butterflies. I am not sure what type of butterfly the second one is. The butterflies in the tray are Owl Butterflies. I have tons of pictures of butterflies in my garden, some I have included in various posts but I really should do a post on just butterflies in my garden. I will put it on my list for 2011. Thanks for visiting my blog.
