Things You Didn't Know About Me

Go Right In...My Garden and Casa Mariposa have both awarded me the Stylist Blogger Award. What an honor! I am so very appreciative that they thought of my blog. Thank you!

Here are the rules when accepting this award:

1. Post a link back to the person that gave you the award.
2. Share 7 random things about yourself.
3. Award 15 recently discovered bloggers
4. Drop them a note, and tell them about it!

So, here are seven things you probably didn't know about me...

1. The seemingly easy question "where are you from?" stumps me because
I have lived in 7 states in the United States (Michigan, Washington State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Maryland, Georgia, and Texas) and 3 different countries (Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands) and the longest I have lived in any one house is 8 years.

2. I speak 4 languages, some more fluently than others (German, English, Dutch, French).

3. I am a morning person but don't ask me to carry on a civilized conversation until I have had my morning cup of  coffee.

4. Georgia O'Keefe is my favorite painter.

5. My dad was an excellent, amateur photographer and it is because of him that I developed my passion for photography. I use to help him develop his photos in his basement darkroom when I was a child. My dad and Ansel Adams are my idols.

6. Although I love to travel, I equally enjoy being at home. My best days are spent out in the garden, baking and cooking for family and friends or decorating my house.

7. My favorite movie genre is Period Piece Dramas.

I follow many blogs that are smart, funny, intellectually stimulating and full of personality. They all deserve this award. Here are a few blogs that I have most recently discovered.

  1. Karin thanks for the award, I appreciate you selecting my blog, now if I can get the time. Congrats on your receiving it too. Four languages, that is an accomplishment. I only learned German and am no very good at it either.

  2. Thanks Karin! I just got this award from another blogger friend of mine! I will work in getting that done. You must have been military? I too moved around a lot in my youth being an Air Force Brat. I look forward to seeing some of your favorite blogs.

  3. Karin -
Thanks so much for the shout-out and the award - I am honored. As always I love your blog - you know I am envious of your photography talents; but WOW fluent in 4 languages! I was proud of myself for English and Spanish - and I barely qualify as fluent in either.

    Get your hands dirty!

  4. GWGT, German was actually my first language. My mother is German and father English and between the two of them they speak 9 languages. We spoke German at home until I was sent to elementary school in the states and then I had to learn English.

Eve, actually I wasn't in the military. my dad worked for International Corporations and we were expats in a lot of places. I went to International Schools and then myself worked abroad.

Thanks Matt! You are very sweet. Spanish is one I should probably learn. It would come in handy!

  8. Hello Karin and congratulations for this great Stylist Blogger Award !! I'm very glad you listed my blog in your recent selection.
It's a pity you did not have a chance to live in France during your expat' life :-) But as a gardener I'm sure you appreciate the French way of life.
Cheers & talk to you later

  9. Hi Karin, Thanks for the award. I speak a few languages; English, Malay ,Mandarin and some Chinese Dialects. Thankfully we have English in common but these days, Google Translator is a great help.

A few months ago, I did a very similar post on the things I like. It was called by a different name at that time. You can view it here if you like : http://onenezz.blogspot.com/2010/09/gardening-game.html

    Thanks again.

  12. 4 languages? Holy cow! I'm super jealous! On a good day I speak English. On a bad day I speak American. I've also lived all over the place thanks to a Navy dad and Air Force husband. I love Georgia O'Keefe and saw an excellent exhibit about her work in DC last year. :o)

  13. Michael, thank you. I am sure that my dad is smiling from above!

Hanni, it is my pleasure! I look forward to learning more about you too.

Beth, you are most welcome! I enjoy reading your blog and yes, it is a great forum to share ideas and beautiful plants!

Gabriel, I have spent many a summer in the Cote D'Azur, Provence, Bordeaux, Corsica, Paris, Alsace...so I think I can say that I certainly appreciate the French way of life!

One, I haven't used Goggle translator yet but I imagine that it is very useful especially for technical language. I will go back to your posting to learn more about you.

p3chandan, I too like listening to language I don't always understand. They are seem to speak so quickly don't they?

Carolyn, no worries, I understand. Our lives are very busy. I sometimes have trouble just keeping up in my own garden!

Casa Mariposa, LOL! It is a great experience to live in so many places although it is painful to leave behind friends each time. I am envious that you got to see the O'Keefe exhibit in DC!
