The Summer of the Green Frog

I have captured so many of these adorable creatures in my travels this summer. They even seem to enjoy posing for the camera. Perhaps the lack of rain has forced these frogs to "share" what wet space is available and therefore the denser population.

Can you see the two frogs?

Floating on his personal pad

Just being green.

Taking a dip and cooling off.

This guy seems to be saving the fly for a snack later on.

Kiss me! I'm cute!

These photos were all taken at this pond at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary.

Is there an animal or plant that you have focused on this summer? Maybe even taken hundreds of photos of it?

  2. Ahh...so cute! It's been a good summer for frogs here with the rain we've had. I do enjoy listening to their songs at night.

  4. Love that last frog shot - he (she ?) looks to have an attitude ! ;>)

We're lucky enough to have a couple of ponds beside the house. Initially we had few frogs this year but the enough tadpoles have matured to where we now have scores of frogs, including King (of the pond) Frog. You'd think we'd have fewer given our drought but that's not the case.

I witnessed (and photographed) a rather large specimen becoming a meal - been debating whether or not to post photos.

Enjoyed your owl shots (we could use a great horned owl here - lots of skunks). And gorgeous shots of the monarchs. Unfortunately our large patch of milkweed is almost dead due to lack of moisture - and no more rain today.

  5. I love the amphibians...it's the reptiles I dislike! I have been taking photos of a water snake the last couple days hoping someone will tell me what they are!

    1. Donna, I wish this was my pond! These were taken at a bird sanctuary I visited in Michigan. We do have a very small pond with baby frogs. I am hoping they will stick around and I can get some good photos of them.

  12. I love the shot looking directly into the face of the frog, Karin. He/she has such a comical look on his face! It has been super dry here, but in the last 2 or 3 days we have had some rain. When we went out to walk the dogs last night, weren't all the frogs and toads, who have been relatively silent of late, singing the most joyous chorus.

  13. I have a big frog in my teensy pond that I love. I'm really bad at capturing animal/insect photos. I do well with things that don't move. :o) Love your frog pix!

    1. We have teeny tiny frogs in our small pond. I've tried to take photos but they are so small right now they haven't turned out. I'll keep trying and try to post. These frogs were pretty cooperative. Maybe because it was mid-day and very HOT.
